As of April 17, 2025, the United States is experiencing a significant measles outbreak, with Texas being the most affected state. This resurgence underscores the critical importance of vaccination and public health awareness.

📍 Texas: Epicenter of the Outbreak
  • Confirmed Cases: 561

  • Hospitalizations: 58

  • Deaths: 2 unvaccinated school-aged children

  • Most Affected Area: Gaines County (364 cases) ​

The majority of infections are among unvaccinated individuals or those with unknown vaccination status. Only 11 of the 561 cases had received at least one dose of the MMR vaccine. ​

📍 New Mexico: First Measles-Related Death

An unvaccinated adult in Lea County, New Mexico, has died after testing positive for measles. This marks the state's first measles-related death in the current outbreak. ​

Measles cases have also been reported in:​

  • Kansas: 23 cases

  • Oklahoma: 7 cases

  • Michigan: 7 cases, including 3 in Montcalm County 

  • Ohio: 20 cases ​
