New Variant NB.1.8.1: A more transmissible COVID-19 variant, NB.1.8.1, is spreading in countries like Egypt, the Maldives, Thailand, and Ireland. It now accounts for approximately 10.7% of global cases. While more infectious, it does not appear to cause more severe illness.
